Alabama: Sagging Pants Law

May 2012: Despite passing the Alabama State House by a vote of 59-0, the state’s so-called “saggy pants bill” has been killed by the Alabama Senate. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Alvin Holmes (D-Montgomery) called for a fine of up to $100 for juveniles and $150 for adults who let their pants droop well below their beltline. The Alabama Senate maintained that the law would be problematic to enforce.
